Partners for Pediatric Vision hosted our fourth Audio Described movie event on December 12th thanks to the Krikorian Metroplex in Buena Park. Twenty-three children with vision loss and their families came to watch Disney's Encanto aided by additional narration of the action on the screen through headphones. The Krikorian Metroplex reserves a theatre just for Partners for Pediatric Vision families for this free event. Everyone loved the special opportunity to gather with other families with a visually impaired child. Thanks to Mattel who made spirits bright with the generous donation of toys, the movie ended but the fun continued when they were given the beautifully wrapped presents. Vistas for Children and Junior Vistas, longtime supporters of Partners for Pediatric Vision, purchased additional toys and wrapped every gift. Portillo’s donated their famous chocolate cake and Trader Joes contributed toward the lunch everyone enjoyed outside after the movie.
The families expressed their appreciation again and again for everyone's role in making this a treasured holiday celebration. Andrew, the father of Vicky expressed it this way:
"Thank you for organizing the movie event. I can’t find the words to express how much these events mean to not just Vicky but the rest of the family. With Vicky’s state, we would never be able to make it to the movies, and this also takes away the experience for our other daughter. The event gives us a rare sense of normalcy to be able to go and enjoy the movie going experience. I love that we’re in a theater full of similar families. It takes away a lot of the stress and anxiety should Vicky have an outburst. "
