Buena Park, California — December 7, 2025 -- Partners for Pediatric Vision (PPV) was thrilled to host its annual Audio-Described Holiday Movie Event, bringing families together for a joyful and inclusive movie-going experience at the Krikorian Downtown Buena Park Metroplex.
This year, twenty children with vision loss, along with their siblings and family members, gathered for a special screening of Disney’s “Zootopia 2,” made accessible through audio description headsets. These headsets provide an additional narration track that describes key visual elements, including character actions, facial expressions, settings, and on-screen details, allowing children who are blind or visually impaired to fully experience and enjoy the movie.
Bringing Movies to Life Through Audio Description
Audio description transforms a traditional movie into a rich, immersive experience for children with vision loss. Through thoughtfully timed narration, moments that might otherwise be missed become vivid and engaging, ensuring every child can follow the story with confidence and excitement. Many families shared how meaningful it was to enjoy a movie together in an inclusive way.
Audio description is often available at your local movie theater — just ask for a headset at the front counter and let the movie come alive.
A Day of Community, Celebration, and Gratitude
Following the screening, families enjoyed lunch together, including Portillo’s famous chocolate cake, a beloved tradition generously donated by Portillo’s. The celebration continued as children received holiday toys donated by the Mattel Children’s Foundation, beautifully wrapped by the Junior Vistas, part of Vistas for Children.
The event would not have been possible without the continued generosity of George Krikorian and the Krikorian Metroplex, who graciously host this event each year and open their doors to PPV families at no cost. Their ongoing support helps ensure that children with vision loss can experience the magic of the movies in an inclusive setting. PPV staff and volunteers also played a vital role, helping to set up the event, serve lunch, and create a warm, welcoming environment where families could relax, connect, and celebrate together.
Creating Meaningful Memories
For many families, this annual holiday tradition is more than a movie. It’s an opportunity to connect with others who share similar journeys, build community, and create lasting memories during the holiday season. There are opportunties for our children to meet one another, practice social skills, navigate a new environment and make special friends.
Partners for Pediatric Vision extends heartfelt thanks to Mattel Children’s Foundation, Junior Vistas, Portillo’s, Buena Park Downtown, the Krikorian Metroplex, and all of our donors, volunteers, and community partners who helped make this magical and inclusive movie day possible.
