Los Angeles, California – On Saturday, March 14, 2026, families from Partners for Pediatric Vision (PPV) enjoyed an inspiring and imaginative morning at the iconic Walt Disney Concert Hall for the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s Symphonies for Youth: The Conductor.

Led by conductor Ana María Patiño-Osorio and hosted by DJ Lance Rock, the performance introduced children to the powerful role of a conductor guiding musicians through rhythm, melody, and imagination.

Thanks to the generosity of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Committee and committee member Margo Penney, PPV families received complimentary tickets to attend this enriching experience.

Before the concert, families arrived early to enjoy interactive, themed activities throughout the hall. These hands-on moments allowed children to explore music through art, movement, and play building excitement for what was to come.

A Musical Journey Led by the Conductor

The concert opened with John Adams’ Chairman Dances, where the orchestra moved like a chugging train before bursting into a lively symphonic rhythm.

Families were transported across musical landscapes from the whimsical world of Ravel’s Mother Goose Suite to the dramatic sounds of Mendelssohn’s Hebrides Overture and Mussorgsky’s Night on Bald Mountain. The program also featured Verdi’s powerful overture from La forza del destino and the vibrant, celebratory rhythms of Arturo Márquez’s Danzón No. 2.

Through each piece, children experienced how a conductor’s movements bring music to life keeping musicians together and guiding the story behind every note.

Expanding Access Through Vision Support

For many of the children receiving services from PPV, this experience was enhanced through the use of low vision devices. Naomi, used her monocular telescope to better see the orchestra and follow the performance.

Low vision devices like monoculars help children maximize their functional vision, making it possible to fully engage in experiences like live music, sports or arts entertainment where visual access deepens connection and understanding.

Building Community Through Shared Experiences

The concert captivated young audiences with its dynamic storytelling and vibrant sound. Families shared in moments of joy, curiosity, and connection creating memories that will last well beyond the performance.

Events like these provide opportunities for children and families to connect, explore, and feel included in community spaces that celebrate accessibility and the arts.

A Heartfelt Thank You

Partners for Pediatric Vision extends sincere gratitude to the Los Angeles Philharmonic Committee, Margo Penney, and all supporters who made this special day possible.

Your generosity helps children with visual impairments experience the beauty of music, engage with their community, and imagine new possibilities.
